HP OmniBook X Flip 14 inch 2-in-1 Laptop Next Gen AI PC 14-fm0000 (AK4Z1AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

I have owned my computer for 2 days.  I shutdown with the Windows button.  When I open the lid, the computer comes back on automatically.  Is this normal?

Hi @Esaud,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thanks for your question, and congratulations on your new HP OmniBook X Flip 14" 2-in-1 — that’s a powerful and modern device.

What you’re seeing is normal behavior for many modern HP laptops, especially newer AI or Intel Evo-certified models. When you:

  • Shut down the laptop via Windows
  • Then open the lid

➡️ The system may automatically power back on, depending on how the firmware and power management are configured.

This is often part of "Modern Standby" or auto-lid power-on features, which are designed to provide a faster, more seamless wake experience.

Want to Change This Behavior?

If you prefer that the laptop does not power on when you open the lid, here’s how to check if the option can be disabled:

  1. Enter BIOS/UEFI:
    • Restart your laptop and press Esc or F10 repeatedly during boot to access the BIOS menu.

  2. Look for a Setting Called:
    • Power On Lid Open
    • Or something similar under the Advanced or Boot Options tab.

  3. Disable it, if available.

  4. Save changes and exit BIOS.

⚠️ Note: Not all HP models offer this toggle. If it’s not listed, the behavior is considered built-in and cannot be disabled through software or BIOS at this time.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
