Does anyone know if its possible to add a second internal hard drive to a HP ENVY - 15-as101na laptop?

I appreciate your time and efforts,
Upgrading to the 512GB SSD is optional, it has nothing to do with the fact that you are upgrading to the 1TB HDD,
That said, you've got it right, the OS should work fine from the existing 256GB SSD.

As I understand you need information on upgrading your storage device,
Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:
Did you check the product specifications of your device?
(Click here to check, if you haven't done it yet)
While you respond to that, here's what you need to know about upgrades tested and approved by HP:
Support for the following solidstate drives:
● 512-MB, M.2, PCIe, NVMe solid-state drive supporting triple-level cell (TLC)
And If you want to upgrade or add another HDD,
Support for all 7.2-mm and 7.0- mm, SATA, 2.5-in hard drives Support for 1-TB, 5400-rpm, 7.2-mm hard drive and 500-GB, 7200-rpm, 7.2-mm hard drive Support for Accelerometer hard drive protection Support for hard drive and solidstate drive in the following combinations:
● 1-TB, 5400-rpm, 7.2-mm hard drive and 512-MB, M. 2, PCIe, NVMe solid-state drive supporting TLC

Thanks for the information.
Just to be clear, can I install a 1-TB, 5400-rpm, 7.2-mm hard drive and use this in conjunction with the existing OEM 256GB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD?
From reading the product specification it sounds like I would have to upgrade the SSD to a 512GB version for this combination to work or have I got the wrong end of the stick?
