Microsoft Windows 11

Back in early January I performed a clean reinstall of windows 11 on my machine and recently I just noticed that instead of reading 16GB for the ram it's only reading 8GB my other ram slot isn't working so I figured that maybe it could've been the reinstallation that caused it to happen because ever since I did the reinstall my pc hasn't been the same, so I just need to know if there's something that I can do to fix it.

I suggest using the third-party enthusiast free version of HWINFO64 to see if the issue is hardware or not.

So I did exactly as you said I should and as soon as I ran the software and got the results I noticed that the total amount of memory being read is 16GB and not 8GB and it's also listing both the ram cards including the card taking up the slot that supposedly isn't being recognized by the OS.

How did you perform the clean installation?

Was it with a USB installer created by the Windows media creation utility, RUFUS or with an ISO image?

Did you install the drivers from the HP Software and driver download web document for your laptop  afterwards?

Well yeah I used an ISO and I also got all of those drivers as well.

I suggest using the HP PC Hardware Diagnostic UEFI utility.

There does exist the possibility that one of the memory modules has an issue.

From a power off state, press the power button and immediately press the F2 key to invoke the Diagnostic utility.

It has a component test section which contains a memory test.

Run the test and post the result here in your thread.

So, I opted to loop the test till it gave an error, but nothing happened and it's only detecting that one slot that's functional the other slot just says that it isn't detecting any ram card.

For troubleshooting purposes, how about swapping positions of the memory cards and running the Diagnostic test again.

If you get the same result on the other slot, your memory module is what has a problem.
