I'd like to install additional ssd drive using m.2 form factor. Is it possible? If it isn't, may I install sdd instead of any existing device?

Here is the Service manual for your series (I think):

Manual

Only models with i7 processor and 4gb dedicated video have an M.2 slot. Yours appears to be an i5 so no M.2 slot.

See page 2.

There is some confusion on the model number you gave. There is a 15-ae001ur which is a model a couple years old and then there is a 13-ae001ur which is brand new with an 8th gen processor, but it comes with a PCIe M.2 as the primary disk.

Are you sure you have the right model number?

Your machine was pre-built with Single hard drive configuration option therefore the chance to have M.2 slot is 50/50. The only way to check is to open the case.

If no M.2 SSD slot, you can replace existing HDD with 2.5" standard SSD. Please use Samsung, Crucial or other reliable brands.

Regards.

Seriously? HP doesn't know what kind of device installed inside their laptop? And there's no possibilty to check it via software?
