First, thank you HaggisCat for the excellent information you've already provided....I have a DV7-6b78us model that I'd like to upgrade with a backlit keyboard.

Using your HP link I navigated to my model, then chose the FRU Remove/Replace (Intel) link to get an idea of what kind of connections might be beneath the keyboard. Here are  stacked screenshots of the medium and close-up views of the partially removed keyboard.

Then I looked for an image of the DV7-6b78us system board and found this for part number 665986-001. If the part number and image is accurate here it is with the portion of the system board that I  think belongs to the keyboard highlighted, and a red circle where a backlit keyboard's light cable should possibly be, and a question mark near a connection that I'm wondering if it would work.

And here's a closer view of the same area. This time both areas are circled.

As you can see, the broader red circle on the left has no connection. If there is supposed to be one there I'm out of luck. The smaller red circle to the right seems to be some kind of connection, could it work for a backlit keyboard?

If not, I think I've seen backlit keyboards available for the 7000 series of DV7 system boards. Would it be possible to swap my 6000 series system board out with a 7000 series system board (if size and port layouts were similar)? Or does that open up a whole other can of worms?

Much thanks for your opinion.
