I know this is an older laptop, and I am not at all sure if this would work, but I was hoping to connect an external monitor and run it at 1440p and if possible 120Hz. I'm limited by the fact that my laptop only has a VGA and HDMI 1.4 hookup, and any adapter I get will surely be limited by that fact. Is it possible to physically remove the HDMI 1.4 from the motherboard and replace it with the newer HDMI 2.0? Or would my laptop even be able to support the newer format?

I know that a displayport cable would be ideal, but given that there is no existing terminal for it, i was thinking that simply swapping the HDMI pieces would work since they are so similar.

Thank you in advance. Any input is greatly appreciated 🙂

Welcome to HP Forums,

This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips,

Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out 🙂

As I understand you want to know if the HDMI port can be replaced,

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

Did you know the HDMI port or video card is integrated to the motherboard on the PC?

(Click here to check your product specifications, if you weren't aware of it)

I'm afraid that said, the port cannot be replaced as such, nor can we add an additional graphics card as there are no upgrade options on laptops as such.

Keep me posted,

Thank you.

I knew that the Graphics Card was integrated, but I was not sure about the HDMI port. It's unfortunate that my older laptop has all of the internal hardware necessary to support 4K video but  lacks the newer connectors necessary to properly utilize the newer formats. Not that this could be helped of course, and I do not blame anyone for this, but it is unfortunate nonetheless. I just wish that there was a way to get around this issue, but sometimes I suppose that there is only so much that can be done.

Thank you for clearing this up for me. I greatly appreciate your assistance 🙂
