Laptop product number: 4WJ86UA  Model: 17-by0088CL

The 2TB HDD is causing the computer to be unbearably slow.  It has less that 600 GB usage.  I want to replace the 16 GB Optane SSD with a 1TB M.2 NVMe SSD.  ChatGPT is giving me a 95%-99% confidence level that this laptop is compatible with the SSD and that it will result in a significant increase in speed. I can keep the HDD installed as a mass storage device and make the new SSD my boot drive. AI even gave me some "good choices":  

  • WD Blue SN580
  • Crucial P3 Plus
  • Samsung 990 EVO Plus

Anyone have any experience replacing the Optane SSD with an NVMe ssd?

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Hi @MarkMc001 

 

If you can do this—replace the Optane with an NVMe drive of the size you want—you can keep the hard drive, but first you must unlink the Optane from the hard drive. Then remove the Optane and install the NVMe drive, and the hard drive will remain as a secondary drive.
