Does my Hp notebook 17 cn-0257 have an pcie 4 m2 ssd slot or an pcie 3 m2 slot? I want to upgrade my storage and also my ssd, I also downloaded software like sisoft Sandra and HwInfo but they showed me nothing. I want to know really if my hp notebook 17 cn-0257 has an pcie 3 or pcie 4 slot. I also tried to look for any info anywhere but I didn't see anywhere where it said that.

Hi:

Below is the link to the product specs for your notebook.

HP Laptop 17-cn0257ng Product Specifications | HP® Customer Support

Since notebook processors are integral parts of the motherboard, a fairly easy and reliable way to look up the NVMe slot PCIe generation is to look up the processor specs on the applicable AMD or Intel websites.

Intel Core i51135G7 Processor 8M Cache up to 4.20 GHz Product Specifications

When you look up the processor specs on the Intel website, under the Expansion Options section you will find the PCIe generation for the processor and chipset.

The processor itself is PCIe Gen 4.0, but the chipset is PCIe Gen 3.0, which means the NVMe SSD slot is PCIe Gen 3.0.

Also, chapter 1 of the service manual indicates that HP only offered PCIe Gen 3.0 NVMe SSD's in the model series.

HP 17.3 inch Laptop PC 17t-cn000 (3T000AV) - Setup and User Guides | HP® Support

If a Gen 4 SSD was supported, surely HP would have offered a couple of PCIe 4.0 drives in the model series.
