I'm looking to replace the touchpad on my laptop. I know the 682101-001 top cover comes with the touchpad, but couldn't find a separate touchpad for my DV6 7000 series. I do see some touchpads on ebay from the DV6-6000 series and they look similar enough.

Are they the exact same touchpad or do I HAVE to replace the entire top cover?

Thanks.

Here is the Service Manual with exploded diagram.

Manual

See pp. 22-24 items 3 and 6.

The DV6-6000 series also "spares" the touchpad as a part of the top cover and the part numbers are different.

I see one guy on eBay purporting to sell a DV6-7000 touchpad but he does not post a picture.

If I compare a picture of the -6000 top cover and one of the -7000 top cover boy they look similar but that is no basis to assume the touchpad is the same part. My advice would be to get the -7000 top cover if you want to be sure to get it right the first time and get one of the -6000 or the -7000 separate touchpads if you are a gambler. HP provides us no means to check compatibility of sub-components that make up the "official" part numbers.
