HP 255 G7 Notebook PC

My device is  HP 255 G7 Notebook PC. Product No. - 6MR61ES. Serial NO. - CND9410TR4.

This is my first time upgrading a laptop.

I bought a Samsung 1TB SSD 870 Evo and after that, I searched for the storage specification for this device on Hp site and this Samsung 1TB SSD 870 Evo didn't show up under the primary M.2 Solid State Drive storage.

Does that mean my device doesn't support Samsung 1TB SSD 870 Evo?

Asking this just to be sure.

My installed ram is Samsung 4gB 1Rx16 PC4 - 2666V and under memory specification in Hp site, the maximum I can install is 16GB DDR4-2400 SDRAM.

Since the speed is different, is it good to upgrade to 16GB DDR4-2400 SDRAM? I once saw that we should upgrade to the same speed of our installed ram and Hp is recommending 2400 I am confused.

Please help. Thank you.

Hello.

Your laptop has two storage options, an M.2 and 2.5 inch SATA slots. According to the https://partsurfer.hp.com website your laptop came with a 2.5 inch 1TB SATA drive. Since the 870 EVO is also a SATA drive you need to remove the old hard drive and place the Samsung in the same slot.

Read the Maintenance and Service Guide carefully to learn how the drive is replaced.

About the DDR4 speeds: You can either put DDR4-2400 or DDR4-2666 memory in your laptop. HP has probably used DDR4-2666 modules due to availability or other reasons. There is no performance loss for using faster memory modules, they will work just fine in the lower speeds. If I am reading the Maintenance and Service Guide correctly, your laptop has only a single slot for memory so 8GB is the maximum for your laptop.
