Can't seem to find much detail on keyboard replacement. This laptop keyboard doesn't look like previous ones where keyboards are accessible from the top.

Thanks!

Yes, the keyboard can be replaced.

You do have to open the notebook to complete the process.

Maintenance and Service Guide

Parts and Procedure - Page 54

Unfortunately, it is a bit of a "dig" - after opening the case, you have to remove the other components.

Install - HP Collection of “how-to” videos

HP Video Gallery

Use Categories and the search window to narrow the search.

For example, search for replace keyboard

Oh my...

"The top cover with keyboard remains after removing all other spare parts from the computer"

Now to see if I can even find the top cover replacement.

I know, right?

The keyboard is more or less accessible depending on the notebook.

In general, "everything is small and jammed together" is a consequence of making notebooks smaller and lighter and more convenient to use and carry about.  All good until you want to replace something.

I am sorry the answer is not what you expected.

If you live in a reasonably urban-like region, this is the sort of repair / procedure you could hire a decent notebook hardware technician to take care of for you.  Not likely to be terribly expensive as these things can go.  Might be worth checking...  The hard part is finding someone who is accepting customers - some places may still be on shut down.  We are in the middle on the West Coast - some types of work can get done, other businesses not-so-much.

Good Luck.

Stay Safe.

Thanks for the pointers on where to find the repair guide. This laptop looks like it's not gonna get fixed for a while. The replacement top cover seems to be harder to find than getting all of the other parts out of the laptop.

The only one I found from a maybe semi-reliable source was amazon for $75+$15 shipping... not even sure where it's coming from. My fault for not paying attention to the keyboard hardware when we bought a few of this laptop.

You are welcome.

I am sorry it is not what you hoped.

If the notebook is stationary, that is, if it is used on a desktop surface, you could attach a USB keyboard to it.

I usually do that just because I have several systems on the desk and sometimes the keyboards in the notebooks / workstations are not easy to reach.

Stay Safe.
