hey y'all!
Being a millennial, I am relatively tech savvy when it comes to navigating, operating, and troubleshooting any computer or mobile device. However, I'm facing a situation that has quite honestly thrown me for a loop.
My husband brought home a Chromebook a few months back so that I would have a backup device while taking my online college courses, just in case... I don't think I touched it once for several weeks. Now that I have, I noticed nothing wants to work apart from the most basic computer functions. Well, long story short, I ended up discovering the Chromebook to be obsolete (or, retired, as HP would say), which is why nothing would work.
Now, this may sound like a ridiculous question to ask, but I am still at liberty to ask it for the sole purpose of ending a pointless argument with my husband over it.
My question is: With the device being completely retired and out of date, is there anything I can do myself to get it updated and running like new again? The diagnostics say something about some sort of update (obviously), hard drives, OS compatibility, etc etc. It's a lot of mumbo jumbo to me if I'm being honest, I just want to know if it can be done and if so, what exactly do I need to do? I need good solid information: which parts to purchase (and where to get them) and step-by-step instructions that should be explained as if they were being read by a toddler... The only thing I ask is if you know that for me to go this route would end up being nothing but a drawn out and stressful waste of time and money — just say so first. If that's the case, I'd rather just going on not knowing about it. 🙂
Thanks in advance!

If the Chromebook is still bootable to a Google Chrome browser, follow the steps at the web document in the link below. You will need a blank USB flash drive in order to create the recovery utility as described in the web document.
