Hi there,
I have HP Notebook - 17-x022ng laptop.
Can I add SSD but without removing existing HDD?
I'm planning to buy Kingston HyperX FURY SHFS37A/120G. (Please, take attention that this SSD isn't small card like RAM)
I want have both new SSD and original HDD.
I can provide serial number and product number.
Also, I found this similar question but after reading it I'm not sure about my own situation.
Edit:
I put my new SSD at the place of original HDD. The, I moved HDD to cady as optical drive replacment. And all works perfect with original o.s. Windows 10 Home. (Before all I made a recovery disk with a flash memory (Be aware that there is need for more than 16GB)).

Hi @Ztef,
Thank you for replying,
I appreciate your time and efforts,
As I understand you need assistance with SSD. Don't worry I'll do my best to help you with this.
Answering to your question, Is up there a place for SSD? Yes, there is a place to install the SSD. However, there might be an issue. Once you install the SSD, please boot the computer into the Bios screen and check if both the hard drive gets detected. There is no information available on the Maintenance and service guide that your PC support dual hard drive. If only the regular hard drive gets detected then its clearly indicates that the SSD is not configured.
Note: If both the drive gets detected and having issues with booting, I would suggest this could be a conflict the Operating system. I would suggest you can try to install a retail copy of Windows and check if that helps.
I hope this answers your question. Let me know if you need any further assistance. I'll be more than happy to help.
Feel free to post your query for any other assistance as well,
It's been a pleasure interacting with you and I hope you have a good day ahead.

Welcome to the HP Forums 🙂
I would like to take a moment and thank you for using this forum, it is a great place to find answers.
As I understand you want to know if you can add an extra SSD on your device,
Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:
Did you check your service & upgrade guide?
If you haven't, Please Click here to access the same.
That said, you seem to have an optical drive bay 9.5mm that you could replace the SSD with however, I personally would recommend using an external storage to increase the capacity rather than replacing the internal parts
Also, if you wish to upgrade you SSD or HDD, look under Page. 3 of the link I shared above.
Keep me posted,
If the information I've provided was helpful,
give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,
that'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!
Good Luck.

Hi Riddle,
Thank you for answer.
I see that I can replace existing HDD with SSD.
But in similar theme here on forum I found this picture that I think represent my laptop too:
Do I really need to remove HDD in order to add a SSD?
Is up there a place for SSD?
Or should I buy a caddy for SSD as optical drive replacement?
