Issue Finding an HP Laptop Part

Hello All, 

I recently Purchased a Budget HP Laptop from Walmart 

It came with 64GB of EMMC I was surprised to see the fact that is was not only upgradable via an M.2 Slot on the board it self but while reading the HP Service guide I was amazed to see the fact that it had an option to be used with a hard drive or SSD if I were to remove the EMMC Board and plug a cable in that goes from this proprietary connector to SATA I immediately goto the HP Part Store but become upset to see the cable is no longer available for purchase I was hoping somebody can help me find one so I can upgrade it 🙂

You actually need both these parts:

Hard drive cable L23187-001 

Hard drive bracket L24490-001

The cable is a complete necessity; you could perhaps get by without the bracket particularly if you use an SSD.

Have you actually opened it to see if there is an M.2 slot? If you have it, you will see it to the right of the memory slots and directly above the battery. 

SATA M.2 SSDs have come down so much in price I believe an M.2 SSD is your least expensive way to do this:

I have a ProBook that died im gonna steal the caddy from 

I have thought about an M.2 Drive but I wanted to use the SSD that was in my latitude because it saves me copying files and a cable is cheaper then the SSD and save me from running acronis

OK well sorry I could not find the cable for less than about $35...

just saying, too that you are not likely to just be able to stick in an SSD that was running in another computer and have it work. Likely to Bluescreen. But good luck.

I Know the windows Recovery screen has an option to replace the system files without touching the user account as well as giving me the choice to just put everything in the windows.old folder I have had luck with putting ssds in other systems without issues 😄
