OMEN 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop PC 16-b0000 (2W6B3AV)

Hello, good afternoon.

I recently upgraded the RAM in my HP Omen 2W6B3AV laptop. I replaced the two original Samsung modules (M471A1K43EB1-CWE) with two HyperX modules (HX432S20IB/16). Since the upgrade, the system has been experiencing constant freezes and blue screen errors (BSOD).

I would like to know what could be the cause of these problems. If it's an incompatibility, what RAM model would be recommended for my Omen 2W6B3AV?

Just like to clear things up a bit.

The Gaming RAM modules you have are 2Rx8, take a look at the datasheet I linked to, and not 1Rx8 like your original modules. These are the 1Rx8 HyperX modules: "HX432S20IB2/16" . There is no incompatibility with dual-rank modules. Quite the contrary. Avoid single rank 16GB modules. 2Rx8 16GB are faster and have a wider compatibility. The SFRA32 Crucial modules are single rank (1Rx8) by the way.

Personally, I'd go for the dual-rank Samsungs or the 2x32GB kit on the Crucial page. Although I'm surprised the "HX432S20IB/16" don't work properly on your Omen. They should....

HP Notebooks do not work or work poorly with gaming or performance memory. HP furnishes stock OEM memory which is running at the highest spped the laptop can achieve. It is not possible, in other words, to improve the performance of an HP notebook by installing "faster" memory. You can install more memory of the same type as the original but not faster.

The HP Part number you give is for a 16t-ae0000 which uses DDR 5 memory and the part numbers you give are for DDR4.

M471A1K43EB1-CWE is DDR4-3200 CL=22

HX432S20IB/16 is DDR4-3200 CL=20

So compatibility is very likely the issue. This memory is exactly the specs of what you had originally but 16 gb modules rather than 8:

Hi!

I've been using the same 8GB HyperX modules, and the 32GB Kingston Fury Impacts that replaced them on my 11th/12th gen DDR4 Business laptops for many years now without any problems. It seems that the 16GB modules cause issues more than the other ones. The timings are actually 20-22-22 as seen on the HyperX datasheet. This small difference usually doesn't cause incompatibility problems.

To be sure, before doing anything else, I suggest that WiniciusLima try one of the original modules together with one of the Kingston ones. If the system is stable (the system with the mixed modules will clock the RAM at 22-22-22), then it's the timings....

Thanks a lot for everyone's help! But just to clarify a few points, my laptop is an "OMEN 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop 16-b0000 (2W6B3AV)," which uses DDR4 3200MHz CL22 RAM, as shown in the attached photo. I'm currently using CL20 memory – and like the original modules, it's also 1Rx8. While it boots into Windows, it gives a Blue Screen of Death after being idle for a while. However, I have a doubt: is there any incompatibility with 2Rx8 modules?

Because the memory modules I have available at the moment are:

1Rx8:

  • M471A2G43AB2-CWE - SAMSUNG
  • KVR32S22S8/16 - KINGSTON
  • CT16G4SFS832A - CRUCIAL

2Rx8:

  • M471A2K43DB1-CWE - SAMSUNG
  • CT16G4SFRA32A - CRUCIAL
  • AD4S320016G22-SGN - ADATA

Hi,

I understand the frustration with blue screens after upgrading RAM on your Omen 2W6B3AV. Here are some troubleshooting steps that might help stabilize your system:

1. Check RAM Compatibility: Ensure the new RAM modules are compatible with your Omen model in terms of speed, voltage, and type (DDR4/DDR5). Mismatched RAM can cause instability.

2. Reseat RAM Modules: Sometimes, simply removing and firmly reseating the RAM sticks in their slots can fix poor contact issues.

3. Run Memory Diagnostics: Use Windows Memory Diagnostic or MemTest86 to check for faulty RAM modules.

4. Update BIOS: Make sure your BIOS is updated to the latest version from HP’s support site; BIOS updates often improve hardware compatibility.

5. Check for Driver Updates: Update chipset and other drivers to the latest versions.

6. Test RAM Modules Individually: Remove one stick at a time and run your system to identify if a specific module causes the crash.

7. Verify Voltage Settings in BIOS: Incorrect voltage can cause blue screens; reset BIOS settings to default or manually adjust if needed.

If none of these steps work, consider contacting HP support for hardware diagnostics or RMA.

Hope this helps you get your Omen stable again!
