Hi @Mhq2

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

If you're experiencing a "boot device not found" error on your HP laptop, it might indicate an issue with the hard drive or the system configuration. Here are some steps you can follow to troubleshoot this problem:

Troubleshooting "Boot Device Not Found" Error

Check BIOS Settings:

  • Restart your laptop and press the appropriate key (often F10, Esc, or F2) to enter the BIOS setup.
  • Navigate to the "Boot" section and ensure your hard drive is listed as the first boot device.
  • Save changes and exit the BIOS.

Perform a Hard Reset:

  • Power off the laptop and remove the battery (if removable).
  • Unplug the power adapter and press the power button for about 15 seconds to discharge any remaining power.
  • Reconnect the battery and power adapter, then turn on the laptop.

Run Hardware Diagnostics:

  • Use the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics tool (often accessible by pressing F2 during boot) to run a test on the hard drive.

Check for Loose Connections:

  • If you're comfortable doing so and have access to the internal components, check if the hard drive is properly connected.

Repair or Restore the Operating System:

  • If you have recovery media, you can attempt to repair or restore the operating system using HP Recovery Manager or Windows Recovery Environment.
