Hi, I've been facing a few issues on device lately, the issues are as follows:

1. I am unable to control the brightness of my device manually; it is stuck at constant level.

2. My audio output is producing sound but imperfectly, it is producing a crackling sound. Only in one speaker (Right-Side (Facing from my side) is working fine but the left side is producing the crackling sound).

3. I am unable to use one of my USB connectors. Only one is functioning and the other is not by which I cannot put other output devices for use.

Hi @Matrix3x3

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

I understand the inconvenience caused by the issues you are experiencing with screen brightness control, audio output crackling, and USB port functionality. Please be assured that these concerns are recognized and will be addressed with appropriate troubleshooting steps.

For the brightness control, the inability to adjust manually may be linked to display driver or backlight functionality.

Confirm graphics driver is fully functional

  • Press Windows + X > Device Manager
  • Expand Display adapters
  • Right-click your graphics driver (e.g., Intel, AMD, or NVIDIA) > Uninstall device
  • Check the box for Delete the driver software for this device if available
  • Restart your PC
  • Windows will reinstall a basic driver
  • Then visit the HP Software and Driver Downloads page
  • Enter your laptop model and install the latest graphics driver listed

Re-enable Generic PnP Monitor

  • In Device Manager, expand Monitors
  • If Generic PnP Monitor is disabled or missing:
    • Right-click and select Enable device
    • If missing, click Action > Scan for hardware changes
    • If still not listed, click View > Show hidden devices and check again

Reset display power settings

  • Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings
  • Expand Display > Enable adaptive brightness
  • Set both On battery and Plugged in to Off
  • Expand Display brightness and set both values to 100%
  • Click Apply and restart

Regarding the audio crackling, the fact that only the left speaker is affected suggests either driver corruption or a hardware fault. Click Here

For the USB port, the failure of one connector while another works points to either driver/power management interference or physical port damage. Click

To proceed effectively, we would like to confirm a few details:

  • Does the brightness issue persist even in BIOS mode or only within Windows?
  • Have you recently updated or reinstalled audio drivers, and does the crackling occur across all applications?
  • Is the non‑functional USB port physically loose or damaged, or does it fail to detect any device at all?
  • I would also request you to please share me the Product number.
  • Gathering this information will help us determine whether the resolution lies in driver updates, system settings, or hardware service. HP provides official documentation for each scenario, and our support team will guide you through the steps. If the issues persist after applying the documented resolutions, hardware service will be initiated to restore full functionality.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I'm an HP Employee.
