hp usb-c dock
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi, I have had a hp usb dock for 14 months now with an intermittent issue during the past 2 months but now it is not working at all other than charging my laptop. The "on" light comes on when I switch it on but as soon as I plug the C type usb in the light on the dock flickers and I cannot use the multiple displays and none of the usb connections work. Strangely the notebook still charges. I have downloaded the recent software updates and still no luck. Any clues?

Welcome to HP Support Forums. 🙂

I understand that you have an HP USB dock for 14 months and it is not working. The HP dock is able to charge the laptop.

To assist you with accurate information I would require more information regarding this:

  • What is the exact model number of the HP USB dock?
  • Did any hardware changes take place or was there a power outage before this issue started?

Please feel free to reply. This information will help me to assist you further.

Cheers! 🙂

Hi MKazi

I did not reply earlier as after a while the USB port worked again and was working fine until today.

The unit is TPA-801.

What was happening was the power light was flashing very quickly. Then it stopped flashing and everything worked as it should. Then I disconnected it and when I put it back together this morning the flashing began again. I turned the computer off and then on and still the same thing. Again after 30 minutes the power light stopped flashing and it all works fine again.

Regards

Theo

Glad to have you back.

I understand that the docking station is not working again correctly.

I suggest you to review the troubleshooting steps from this HP document: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c03247469

These steps help in resolving various docking station issues.

I sincerely hope this fixes the issue. Keep me posted for further assistance.

Cheers! 🙂

Hi,

I am having the same issue. This thread is a bit old but I was wondering if this was ever resolved?

When I plug in the USB C onto my spectre x360 the power LED on the dock would flash rapidly. While this is happening, it would charge the laptop but would not bring anything else online. Sometimes the LED becomes solid on its own and the screen would come up after a few minutes, but other times, it would go on for ever.

I notice that if I unplug the power on the dock and then plug back in, the LED and screen would become normal and come back up.

Is this a dead-on-arrival dock?

One of our users is having this exact issue as well with the HP Spectre x360 too. He travels a lot, but notices it when he is in the office. Says he has to power cycle the docking station while unplugged for a few minutes to get it to work and he reports it happens a few times each day.

I am unsure if this is a firmware/hardware update problem. But a non-solid light that flickers continuously on the docking station for two computers of the same model is probably a bigger issue at some form.
