Hi, I have an HP Pavillion 15-cw1598sa that has one USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C™ (Data Transfer Only) port on the left hand side. I have purchased a USB-C to 3-port USB 3.0 hub so that I can attach a few other USB devices such as an external storage device, wireless mouse dongle etc.
However when connecting the USB-C to 3-Port USB 3.0 hub (by Lention) the power light doesn't not illuminate and the hub simply doesn't work. I have checked things like Device Manager making sure the USB Root Hub is not checked to turn devices off to save power, but that makes no difference. Also made sure all Windows Updates and USB device drivers are up to date.
Does anyone know if what I'm trying to do should work, or is the USB-C on the HP Pavillion simply not able to achieve this? If so, what other robust ways are there of making more USB outlets available other than hubs for the USB 3 sockets.
Thank you.
Dave

I reviewed your post and I understand that the USB hub is not working when connected to the USB C port on the computer.
Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.
Have you checked other devices on the USB C port?
What is the power requirement of the USB hub?
Meanwhile, I recommend you update the BIOS and the graphics driver from the below link and check if it helps.
BIOS: https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp100501-101000/sp100645.exe
Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

Hi
In the end I returned the USB-C hub and obtained a refund. With everything uptodate in terms of software and driver versions the USB-C hub simply didn't work (no power). I don't have any other USB-C devices, so unable to see if anything else works.
I am now at a loss to know what sort of USB-C device will work on my HP Pavilion laptop.
Any help appreciated.
Thanks
Dave

The USB C port on the computer supports data transfer only. Most of the USB C docking station uses a thunderbolt port so make sure that the USB hub use purchase is supported on your computer.
If any other questions arise, please feel free to write back to me.

That's really where I'm stuck. How do I tell which USB-C hub to USB 3 is compatible with the USB-C port on the HP Pavilion laptop?
Would something like this be compatible? UGREEN USB C Hub Adapter Type C to 4 Ports USB 3.0 Data Hub USB Splitter Compatible with Macbook Pro...
Or what should I look for in the spec of a USB-C hub to USB 3.0 adaptor? I am not looking to use a docking station or for video, simply USB 3 devices such as a wireless mouse dongle or a wireless keyboard.
Thanks

The one you have listed should work with the computer. However, the best way to find out is to try a few until you find the one which works with your computer.

THanks for your reply, but I still cannot find a device that actually works. short of buying more and sending them back if they don't work, I will have to make do with the USB 3 on the other side and not use the USB-C as I just don't have another device that I can try.
It's a brand new laptop too, perhaps I will see if HP will answer a direct email.
