Pavilion 17-e019dx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a Pavilion 17-e019dx that has 4GB RAM installed and it works fine with that original RAM. I bought 3 cards that are compatible with this and installed with the old RAM and the pc will not start. I get a power LED that gives a long blink and then after about 5 of these the caps lock led blinks once. When I remove the new RAM, the pc starts fine. When I replace the old RAM with the new one by itself, it will not work. I get the same LED blinks. I have confirmed the RAM is the same as what is originally there and that they are seated correctly (and the pins were clean).  I do not see any BIOS updates that would be needed for this and I cannot figure out why just adding the RAM will not work. The max capacity for this is 16GB. Any help will be appreciated.

I purchased the exact same memory card but it did not work. I did find there was a BIOS update under the Windows 8.0 operating system for this computer that was needed even though the pc was upgraded to Windows 10.  Once I installed the BIOS update and put the new RAM in, all worked fine. Tricky finding this out but it worked.

Its specs

         https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c03996822

which says

  • 4GB DDR3L SDRAM (1 DIMM)
  • Maximum supported = 8GB

That means it already has 4GB on 1 slot, you can add SAME existing RAM to slot 2 or using the following RAM

           https://www.crucial.com/memory/ddr3/ct51264bf160b/ct5140719

Max is only 8GB, Crucial also confirmed :

I ordered the crucial card and it still did not work either by itself or in addition to the old memory. If I just use the old memory it works fine. I am trying one last card. I used the HP diagnostics to get the make and number of the existing memory card and I ordered a Kingston 4GB PC3-12800 DDR3-1600MHz non-ECC Unbuffered SoDimm Rank1 OEM Memory HP16D3LS1KFG/4G, which is identical to what is in the laptop now. I am hoping this will work but if not, I am open to any other suggestions. All diagnostics I ran show no issue with any of the slots and the cards are all clean and seated properly. Thanks.
