HP ZBook 15 G5
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a brand-new HP Zbook 15 G5 and an HP Elite USB-C Docking Station (TPA-B01).

After installing my monitor and ethernet cable into the Dock and plugging the Dock’s usb-c cable into my HP Zbook 15 G5 laptop, all was good…. It worked great, I had an extended screen between my laptop and the monitor, I had network access via the ethernet cable in the Dock and I had access to one of my usb devises hooked also hooked to the Dock.

BUT…From the first day I started to use it, a few times a day, the dock would disconnect from the PC. All my open windows on the monitor would shift to the laptop document, my network connection would go down and any device I had on the usb ports of the dock were no long accessible.

To fix the problem, I have to unplug the dock’s usb-c cable from the PC, wait 5-10 seconds and then plug it back in. Everything would go back working.

First few times it happened, I was not at the laptop but found it that way when I returned. I thought maybe it had to do with the computer going to sleep…but I change the settings to never sleep or hibernate, it did not help. I then realized it does it randomly even if I am working on the laptop…. I hear the sound that the computer makes when a USB device is disconnected, followed by what I described above.

I have the latest firmware: 1.17.

Any help would be great.

What are your Thunderbolt security settings in the BIOS? Older versions of Windows 10 worked better with no security but lately I find "user authentication" works better and you have to use the Intel Thunderbolt app to allow your Thunderbolt devices. Improves function quite a bit.

When I go into the thunderbolt software and select "View Attached Devices" , the list is empty.  I had downloaded the latest version of the Thunderbolt software from the HP site, under the model of my laptop. I did look in the BIOS but did not find anything listed there for Thunderbolt.

The problem continues, at least 2-3 times a day the docking station disconnects.  Any other suggestions?

Found the BIOS simulator:

Advanced/Port optionsAdvanced/Port options

Try setting it to PCIe and Thunderbolt-User Authorization. You should then be able to authorize it using the thunderbolt app on the computer:

authorize the dockauthorize the dock

Setting mine up this way fixed my occasional disconnect problems particularly with monitors connected to the dock.
