HP ENVY x360 Convertible Laptop PC 15-ed1000 IDS Base Model

The problem started when I reenter Windows Insider program.   Temperature of the computer seems to be connected.  Now working OK then the keys affected CDE & 3 stop working.  The computer is not even three years old and is then second one with this problem.  The first I turned into a navigation computer and use the on-screen keyboard as there is very little typing requirement.  Having owned HP Laptop for years and had keyboard issues previously   with units where the keyboard was easy to replace.  No longer the case plus testing indicates the keyboard is OK.   I am prepared to dissemble the laptop when I return to the UK.  However Is this a keyboard or a software problem?  Should I consider other options if I buy a new computer?  Await you advise and comments.  Best regards  Richard Naylor

I am a Windows Insider as well and have been with the program since its inception.

There have been times that I have had to roll back a few updates to get rid of an issue.

Frequently the issue is the Insider build issue with  hardware, chipset and drivers.

Plug in a USB keyboard to see if the issue is hardware or software. If the USB keyboard works it means that the keyboard has an issue.

My advise would be to buy a laptop with better specs.

An Envy is OK, but it definitely isn't  future proof for very long.

My five year old Spectre 13-ap0000 has been running Windows Insider builds for three years.

Thank you for your reply.

It does not address the concerns as the keyboard works fine at times.  Then stops on cde&3 then starts again.

Mentioning a better laptop is an insult.  I configured this unit with the best HP had to offer and it was not a low cost.

I changed to HP in 2012 as I felt it was the best option.  I gave the laptop away working this summer. 12 YEARS  later.  New keyboard every four years easy to change NOT LIKE TOAYS UNITS!!!!!!!

I upgrade in 2017  which was ok until were  hit by lightening  in 2021,  Yet still using that computer for Navigation.

It seems you are telling me to choose a different brand next time.  Maybe the problem is made it China!!!!

The real fact is if a keyboards fail in less than three years maybe HP is mot a good choice.

Using on screen keyboard as needed.

It is lucky that I have rebuilt laptops for years since I purchased a Sharp Laptop in 1995

In 30 days I should back in the UK then I will address the problem

Thank you for your assistance

Your reply was more than a little passive aggressive. There was no insult intended.

Good luck in your search for an answer to your issue.

Have a great day.

Now maybe you understand my pint.  Your first reply was not helpful.  The best option is to buy in the US due to choice price and more.  I have study the UK prices and see based on level  that is the best price range Dell is a much better offer.  I am disappointed after so my years using HP products.  What is interesting is that I rarely purchased in the UK,  I have purchased in Lagos, Nigeria which was USA spec computer, then direct in the USA for shipment to Central America.

In the high end area it is a lower cost to fly to the USA.

Considering the high cost of your up market units if I decided at the age of 77 years to spend such money the best choice would be Mac and no longer have to deal with Windows.

I use the computer for high end business so I configure carefully which is possible in the USA but not in the UK.   No Games.

Enough of that.

I was seeking help with an issue.  Impossible to get a direct answer.  However I tried to go to a restore point to removed the last major update from windows.  After that there were updates from HP,   The restore failed however there was a change and now the keyboard is working OK.  Certain Software must have been removed.

Windows 11 is much more difficult now when there is problems.

Something to keep in mind.

Thank you for your assistance.

It is unfortunate that you are not quite polite enough for forums.

Do not bother to reply.
