Microsoft Windows 11

My HP Envy 17 laptop with Belgium Azerty keyboard laoyut broke down.

It was fixed under warranty by HP by replacing the motherboard.

Due to GDPR they reset my laptop. So I had to reinstall/configure Windows 11 again.

Everything seem to work except 1 key.

The key right aside of alt-gr with \,< and >  on it.

After doing some tests with powertoys keymapper I found that the key is mapped to the unexisting right control key.

All drivers and bios seem to be up-to-date.

Any ideas ?

Hi @Leo410,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing a keyboard mapping issue, possibly related to the drivers or the keyboard layout settings in Windows 11. Here are a few steps you can try to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

  • Check Keyboard Layout Settings: Make sure that the correct keyboard layout is selected in Windows 11. Sometimes, after a reinstall, the default layout might change. Go to Settings > Time & Language > Language > Preferred languages > Options > Keyboards and make sure the correct layout for your Belgium Azerty keyboard is selected.
    • Update Keyboard Drivers: Even though you mentioned that all drivers are up-to-date, it's worth double-checking if there are any updates specifically for the keyboard drivers. You can usually find these updates through the Device Manager. Right-click on the Start button, select Device Manager, expand the Keyboards category, right-click on your keyboard, and select Update driver. HP ENVY 17.3 inch Laptop PC 17-cr0000
  • Check BIOS Settings: Sometimes, keyboard mappings can be affected by BIOS settings. Make sure that there are no unusual settings related to the keyboard in the BIOS. You can access the BIOS by restarting your computer and pressing the appropriate key (often Del, F2, or F10) during startup.
  • Reinstall Keyboard Drivers: If updating the drivers doesn't solve the issue, try uninstalling and reinstalling the keyboard drivers. Right-click on your keyboard in Device Manager and select Uninstall device. Then restart your computer, and Windows should automatically reinstall the drivers.
  • Use Microsoft Keyboard Layout Creator: If the issue persists, you can try creating a custom keyboard layout using the Microsoft Keyboard Layout Creator tool. This tool allows you to remap keys according to your preference. You can download it from the Microsoft website and follow the instructions to create a custom layout that maps the problematic key correctly.

I hope this helps.

Thank you. I’ve already tried the steps you mentioned. Additionally, I’ve contacted HP support, and they will send someone to fix it since the laptop is only one year old. Trying the last option with the Microsoft Keyboard is definitely something I’ll consider. I’ll keep you updated.
