I have an Omen laptop with a backlit keyboard. I know I can toggle the backlight on and off with <FN-F4>, but somehow, I hit a combination of keys which now makes the backlight fade in and out. It fades out after 3-5 seconds, then it fades back in after 3-5 seconds. How do I get the backlight to stay on at all times without the fade?

Hi @Prosybris,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If the keyboard backlight on your HP laptop is fading in and out, there could be several reasons for this issue. Here are some steps you can follow to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the problem.

Check Keyboard Backlight Settings:

  • Most HP laptops allow you to control the keyboard backlight brightness. Press the appropriate function key (e.g., F5 or F9) with the backlight icon (usually looks like a keyboard with a light) to adjust the backlight brightness. Make sure it's not set to the lowest brightness level.

Power Settings:

  • Sometimes, power-saving settings can affect the keyboard backlight. Go to your laptop's power settings and make sure that the keyboard backlight is not set to turn off when the laptop is running on battery power.

Update Keyboard Drivers:

  • Outdated or corrupted keyboard drivers can sometimes cause issues with the keyboard backlight. Go to the HP support website and download the latest drivers for your laptop's keyboard.

Restart Your Laptop:

  • Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve minor software glitches that may be causing the keyboard backlight to fade in and out.

BIOS/UEFI Settings:

  • Enter your laptop's BIOS/UEFI settings (usually by pressing a specific key like F2 or Del during startup) and check if there are any settings related to the keyboard backlight. Ensure they are properly configured.

Check for Updates:

  • Ensure that your laptop's operating system is up to date. Sometimes, system updates can fix hardware-related issues.

Physical Inspection:

  • Examine the keyboard and the area around it for any physical damage or loose connections. If there is damage or a loose connection, you may need to have the keyboard or its backlight components repaired or replaced.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
