HP Laptop 15-bw0xx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have an HP Laptop just over a year old. Recently, some keys on the left (1, q, a, z, Tab, caps lock, and shift) only work sometimes. I've tried to reinstall the drivers and restart multiple times. Does this sound like a hardware issue I could fix by buying a new keyboard part?

@mstrmoe,

Welcome to the HP Forums!

Thank you for posting your query on this forum, it's a great place to find answers.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

In order that I may provide you with an accurate solution, I will need a few more details.

  • When was the last time the computer was working fine?
  • Have you made any software or hardware changes on the computer?
  • Have you checked with an external keyboard?

While you respond to that, I recommend you run a test on the keyboard to make sure whether it is hardware or a software issue.

Follow the steps in the below article to run the test.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

Thanks for your help!

Everything was working properly until probably two months ago.

No significant hardware/software changes.

Just plugged in an external and all the keys are working fine

Did the keyboard component test on the notebook's keyboard and got this code: QBVPW0-8PA9AB-XD7URG-G1HK13

If it is hardware (which it looks like it is), can I just replace the board to fix it?

@mstrmoe,

It is great to have you back and your patience is greatly appreciated.

Yes, it looks like a hardware issue and if you replace the keyboard the should be up and running.

I am sending you a private message suggesting the next course of action.

Good day! Take care 🙂
