1. I recently had to reinstall windows 10 on my laptop because of a failed ssd. I've managed to reinstall windows 10 using a bootable USB media.
2. Install process and user setup using the keyboard was normal and un-eventful
3. Device manager initially showed several question marks on some of the devices, but after re-installing the drivers from HP support website, all of these disappear.
4. However on restart, the keyboard and the touchpad are disabled. I cannot make any entries via the keyboard or touchpad at all. I can only use the onscreen keyboard and mouse.
5. Uninstalling the SYNAPTICS touchpad driver fixes the touchpad, but the problem with keyboard still remains.
6. Device manager now shows 2 keyboards HID Compliant Keyboard and Standard PS/2 keyboard. I don't have any external keyboard or docking station connected.
7. I know the physical keyboard works because the UEFI Hardware diagnostics shows functional keyboard AND I am able to make use of the keyboard while I enter the PC user data during the OS setup. UEFI Systems Extensive Test also does not report any failures.
THE Question: Is there any setting that I need to change to get the keyboard to work or do I have to delete anything? I have tried to delete either or both of the keyboards reported by device manager but this doesn't seem to work.
Any suggestions would be wellcome.
Thanks.
However now, my keyboard is disabled. I have run the

Ok, I have managed to resolve this issue myself. Painfully ... I must add.
1. I attempted the UEFI diagnostics; keyboard works
2. Reset PC to factory condition; keyboard works, I am able to type in the User name etc...
3. With the internet connection active and windows update set to automatic, the drivers update and lo and behold; the keyboard goes dead again.
4. Reset PC to factory condition again; keyboard works again, user name entry etc no problem.
5. Now I set the windows update to NEVER and with Device manager open, a whole host of stuff have yellow ! marks on them.
6. I now install the HP drivers one by one BUT berore each stage, I set a computer restore point to roll back incase the keyboard goes dead again.
7. I manage to resolve all the yellow ! marks. Now everything works!
So it seems that it may have been a WINDOWS 10 driver update conflict; just which one I can't tell.
Now I have a delima, do I do a windows 10 update and will I lose the keyboard again?
I am not sure if the system restore point will actually roll back to the previous drivers or will the drivers stay loaded?
Regards.
ps: It sounds simple but doing steps 2-4 several times before I figured out to try the drivers one at a time!

Thanks for the reply and finding the solution. However, there would be several Windows updates and I am not sure which update would cause the issue.
Recommend you to create a restore point. Run HP Support Assistant to update all the drivers.
Once all the drivers are updated check if the keyboard works.
Create a restore point again and enable Windows updates.
If the keyboard stops working again, you can do a system restore.
Will do some more research and get back to you.
