My little brother has a laptop with the model HP Pavilion 15-BW059SA
He's been having minor issues with it here and there, but recently an issue came up about 30 minutes ago where his keyboard is acting strange.
He tells me it just randomly happened out of nowhere. I know that he has not done any damages or anything to the laptop before this problem occurred, as I have another sibling sharing the room with him and I was told that my little brother did not tamper with his laptop in any way today.
Some Background Information about the history of the Laptop - The laptop has received damages in the past few months where sugary drinks were spilled on it, which messed with the Keyboard and corroded some of the hardware inside. When these moments occurred, it was taken to a repair shop and brought back each time as good as new, working well and as it was intended to.
My little brother also had a habit (he doesn't anymore) of hitting the keyboard whenever he lost at a game or couldn't get something done on it. I'm not sure if that really affected the keyboard in any way, but I assume it did. Although, this has stopped altogether a while ago so this doesn't really rise as an issue now.
Half of the keyboard works as intended, whereas the other half works in a strange manner:
- Some of the keys (such as 'R', 'T', 'G', 'Q', 'M', and a bit more) produce random characters when pressed down. These characters are always the same depending on which key is pressed, and the characters are bunches of random keys (eg. Pressing 'T' will produce "b98^rv5t" each time it's pressed down, pressing 'R' will produce "b15$7&h" each time it's pressed down, and " pressing 'Q' will lock the Q into a loop where it continuously types the character Q.).
- Other keys do not function, these include keys such as 'Return' or 'Backspace' or 'Caps Lock', where nothing occurs once they're pressed.
I've searched and searched for any solutions to this, and I've tried these methods:
- Re-installing or updating the Keyboard drivers.
- Resetting the laptop.
- Tried some keyboard combinations (as told by some others online).
- Disabled Num Lock.
- Changing the keyboard language to different types to see if it had any effect.
- Using the on-screen keyboard to see if just the inputs were causing the problem.
- Note: The on-screen keyboard worked as intended with no problems, so it was an issue with the hardware.
From everything I've gathered and tried with the laptop, I've come to a conclusion (based on my knowledge) that the problem lies within the keyboard hardware.
Please let me know if there are any methods I can use and anything I can do to fix this.
Thank you very much for taking the time to read this, all help is greatly appreciated!

@maydeed Welcome to HP Community!
You've done your homework, and the only other thing left to do, is to check with an external keyboard to confirm the cause of the failure, if the external USB keyboard works while the internal keypad doesn't, it's most likely affected by the games your brother lost and the sugary syrups it's been drinking/absorbing so far.
Note that adding an external keyboard often doesn’t disable the laptop’s internal keyboard, please disable the same from the device manager and then try using the external device to check if it works without these issues.
Keep me posted, as I (Or a trusted colleague) shall follow-up on this case to ensure the concern has been addressed,
And your device is up and running again, only in case you don't get back to us, first!
That said, If the information I've provided was helpful, give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,
That'll help us, and others see that we've got the answers!
Good Luck.
