HP Pavilion x360 - 14-ba048sa
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I installed additional memory to take from 4Gb to 8Gb. The RAM is fine, but upon restarting, the keyboard and trackpad no longer were detected by windows. They work fine in boot-time apps such as BIOS setup, so hardware is fine. Windows reports they are present and working OK, but simply ignores them. External keyboards, mice & trackpads work fine via USB.

I have followed advice online including uninstalling from windows without success. I reinstalled windows and that didn't work either. Eventually I rolled back the last BIOS update using the 'windows-key/B' option at reboot. This restored them both until the next time I rebooted. They then "disappeared" again. I am scunnered.

Thank you for joining the HP Support Community

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

Try using an alternate keyboard and mouse and check if it works.

Meanwhile, use the following steps to open the Component Tests menu and run test on Keyboard and Touchpad.

  1. Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.

  2. Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second. When the menu appears, press the F2 key.

  3. On the main menu, click Component Tests.

  4. The Component Tests menu displays.

Your Component Tests menu might be different, depending on the components installed on your computer.

Sample List of the Component tests

  • Keyboard Test - This interactive test checks the keyboard. This test requires a keyboard.

To run the test, click Keyboard, and then click Run once.

The Keyboard Test time is 3 minutes.

    note:

Bluetooth devices are not currently supported.

  • Mouse/Touchpad Tests - This consists of two tests, the Pointer Test and the Drag and Drop Test.

To run the tests, click Mouse/Touchpad. Select the test you want to run, and then click Run once. Follow the instructions to complete the test.

    note:

Bluetooth devices are not currently supported.

Keep me posted, how the test goes!

Have a great day!

Cheers:)
