Hi @gGianny

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thank you for sharing the details, and I truly appreciate the steps you’ve already taken to troubleshoot the keyboard and mouse issue. It sounds like you’ve been very thorough, and I understand how frustrating it must be to see them work during setup but stop responding afterward.

Let’s walk through a few focused steps to help restore full functionality.

Step 1: Try different USB ports

  • Unplug the keyboard and mouse and connect them to different USB ports—preferably the rear ports if it’s a desktop.
  • Avoid using USB hubs or front panel ports during troubleshooting.

Step 2: Boot into Windows Safe Mode

This helps determine if a driver or service is interfering.

  1. Hold the Power button to force shutdown.
  2. Turn on the PC and immediately press F11 repeatedly to enter Windows Recovery Environment.
  3. Select Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings > Restart.
  4. When the options appear, press 4 or F4 to boot into Safe Mode.

Check if the keyboard and mouse work in Safe Mode. If they do, the issue is likely driver-related.

Step 3: Reinstall USB and HID drivers

  1. Press Windows + X, then select Device Manager.
  2. Expand Keyboards, Mice and other pointing devices, and Universal Serial Bus controllers.
  3. Right-click each item under these categories and choose Uninstall device.
  4. Restart the computer. Windows will automatically reinstall the default drivers.

Step 4: Check for Windows updates

  1. Go to Settings > Windows Update.
  2. Click Check for updates and install all available updates.
  3. Restart the PC after updates are installed.

Step 5: Use HP Support Assistant to scan for drivers

Download and install HP Support Assistant from:
https://support.hp.com/in-en/help/hp-support-assistant
Open the app and select your device.

Click Updates and Messages, then Check for updates and messages.

Install any driver or BIOS updates listed.

Step 6: Test with another keyboard and mouse

If possible, try using a different wired USB keyboard and mouse. This helps confirm whether the issue is with the devices or the system.

Once you’ve completed these steps, try restarting the PC and checking if the keyboard and mouse respond normally. If they work in Safe Mode but not in normal mode, we can explore further driver cleanup or startup service checks.

You’ve done a great job so far—just a few more steps and we’ll get your system fully responsive again. Let me know how it goes or if you’d like help with any of the steps above.

Hi! It looks like your keyboard and mouse worked during setup, but stopped after Windows was fully installed. This usually happens because drivers are missing or not installed properly.

Try this:

  • Use another USB port (if it’s a USB keyboard/mouse).
  • If possible, try using a different keyboard or mouse to check whether the hardware is working properly. You can also test your mouse buttons online using this free mouse tester tool.
  • Boot into Safe Mode: Windows should detect basic drivers, and your keyboard/mouse may work there.
  • Once in Safe Mode, install the latest drivers from your computer or motherboard manufacturer’s website.
  • If nothing works, a clean reinstall of Windows using a USB drive sometimes fixes the driver issue completely.

These steps usually solve the problem when the keyboard/mouse stop working after Windows install.
