Keyboard and mouse not working after screen replacement on HP Pavilion x360

I have an HP Pavilion x360 2-in-1 Laptop 15T-ER100 (SN:Edited) running original Windows 11 Home. I replaced the broken screen with a new one, and while the display works perfectly (touch function works, colors are fine), the integrated keyboard and touchpad become unresponsive when Windows boots up. The strange thing is that everything works perfectly in BIOS - I can navigate using both keyboard and touchpad without any issues.

I've confirmed this isn't a hardware defect: when I disconnect the new screen and use an external monitor, the keyboard and touchpad work normally in Windows. The problem only occurs with the new screen installed and only within the Windows operating system, not in BIOS. I'm looking for help to determine if this is a driver conflict, USB power management issue, or some kind of interference between the new display and the input devices.

Hi @X36015t-er100gv,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand how confusing and frustrating it must be to have your keyboard and touchpad stop working in Windows after a screen replacement, especially when they work perfectly in BIOS. That’s a strong clue that this is not a hardware failure, but likely a driver conflict, power routing issue, or device initialization problem triggered by the new display.

Let’s walk through the most effective steps to resolve this.

Step-by-Step Fix for Keyboard & Touchpad Not Working in Windows

1. Update or Reinstall Drivers

Since the issue only occurs in Windows, it’s likely driver-related.

2. Disable USB Selective Suspend

Sometimes, Windows power management disables internal devices.

  • Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Change plan settings > Advanced settings
  • Expand USB settings > USB selective suspend setting
  • Set it to Disabled for both battery and plugged in

3. Check Device Manager

  • Boot into Windows using an external keyboard/mouse
  • Open Device Manager
  • Look under:
    • Keyboards
    • Mice and other pointing devices
  • If you see any yellow warning icons or “Unknown Device,” right-click and choose Uninstall, then reboot.

4. Perform a Hard Reset

This clears temporary memory and forces hardware reinitialization.

  • Turn off the laptop
  • Disconnect the charger and all peripherals
  • Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds
  • Reconnect the power and boot up

Hey VikramTheGreat,

Thanks a bunch for all your recommendations. We tried them all, but they didn't work for us.

I'm gonna tell you what else we've done, hoping it gives you more insight into what the issue might be.

And seriously, thanks again for all your help.

  1. The outside of the laptop says it's an x360 15t-er100, but the system info says it's a 15-er1xx (without the "T").

  2. When we installed the touchscreen, the keyboard and touchpad stopped working. But when we disconnected the laptop's screen from the motherboard and plugged in an external one, both the keyboard and touchpad worked perfectly.

  3. The keyboard and touchpad work perfectly in the BIOS.

  4. We booted it up with a Linux USB drive, and the keyboard and touchpad worked fine.

  5. We also booted it up with a Sergei Strelec WinPE 10 USB (a bootable disk), and they worked perfectly.

  6. We deleted all the drivers that had "HID" in the name and then restarted it, but nothing changed.

I appreciate your analysis and any new recommendations you might have.

Thanks a lot!

Hi Vikram,

where you able to provide a solution? We have the exact same issue as described here. Thank you in advance.

I found a solution myself.
After reading that the keyboard and touchpad worked fine without the screen connected, I concluded the issue was with the screen. Since both screens have a controller, I swapped the controller from the old screen into the new one. After doing that, everything worked perfectly.
