Hello,

My brand new HP laptop has, on the F5 button, the option of switching ON and OFF the light under the keyboard, and it even has a lower intensity. The problem is that, if you don't touch the keyboard in a few seconds, the lights go OFF. I want this to be always ON, because I already have the option of turning it OFF whenever I want.

I have made my research online and apparently, the only way to do it is accessing the BIOS, and change this configuration in the "Advanced" tab inside the BIOS configuration panel (source: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c01612362. Open the option "the backlight stays on for only a few seconds"). The only problem here is that no "Advanced" tab exists in my BIOS. This is an issue that has appeared several times in this official HP forum, and there is NO SOLUTION even though the topics are marked as solved.

The reason behind it, apparently, is that HP doesn't want to give average users the access to the advanced options in the BIOS for the "low performance" laptops. And I don't care about it, I just want my keyboard to be ON or OFF whenever I say so.

Could you please help me? My BIOS is an AMI F.17, just in case someone wants to know.

Thank you very much!

@Atreyu_2  Here's all you need to know about back-light function:

To adjust the brightness of the back-light, press the key with the back-light icon  two or three times in a row. The keyboard back-light dims and brightens. It might be necessary to press the fn (function) key at the same time to activate the back-light key.

If that dossn't work or you which to make changes on the BIOS advanced features, I'm afraid you are right that HP has locked a few settings on your computer which are being managed by the system configuration as the device is configured to its optimal performance.

There's no way of resetting or changing these locked settings via HP articles or assistance,

You could unlock and make changes at your own discretion using 3rd party tools, however, HP doesn't recommend the same nor has information about the tools used.

I hope you understand.
