Hi @Hugh5691,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your keyboard and touchpad aren't working on your HP laptop running Windows 11, but they work in recovery mode, it's likely a driver issue. Here’s how to get and install the necessary drivers.
Update Drivers via Device Manager
- Press Win + X and select Device Manager.
- Expand Keyboards and Mice and other pointing devices.
- Right-click on your keyboard and touchpad devices (e.g., HID Keyboard Device, Synaptics Touchpad) and select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for updated driver software. Windows will search for and install any available updates.
Download Drivers from HP Support
- Go to the HP Support website.
- Enter your laptop’s model number and search for drivers.
- Download the latest drivers for your keyboard and touchpad. Look under Driver-Keyboard, Mouse and Input Devices and Driver-Touchpad sections.
- Install the drivers and restart your laptop.
Reinstall Drivers
- In Device Manager, right-click the keyboard and touchpad devices and select Uninstall device.
- Restart your laptop. Windows should automatically reinstall the drivers upon reboot.
Check for Windows Updates
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
- Click Check for updates to ensure you have the latest system updates that might include relevant driver updates.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
