My notebook keyboard doesn’t correct. When I press the „a“ the notebook writes „as“ and when I press „s“ the notebook writes also „as“. The same problem occurs with keys 1 and 2, q and w, y and x (German keyboard layout).
I already checked the BIOS and installed windows 10 new, but the problem is still there.
Is there any fix?
How can I open the notebook? There are only a couple of screws on the bottom, but I can‘t lift the aluminum cover to check the keyboard.

Hi@MAK19, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Wrong keyboard layout selected. Is that right?
I will definitely help you.
I recommend you try the following steps below and check if that helps.
Your default keyboard layout or input method is the one that’s automatically used with the language you see Windows in (for example, the QWERTY keyboard for American English).
If you want to keep your Windows language the same but use a different keyboard automatically, follow these steps:
- Open Control Panel by swiping in from the right edge of the screen, tapping Search (or if you're using a mouse, pointing to the upper-right corner of the screen, moving the mouse pointer down, and then clicking Search), entering Control Panel in the search box, and then tapping or clicking Control Panel.
- Enter Add a language in the search box and then tap or click Add a language.
- Tap or click Advanced settings.
- Under Override for the default input method, choose the keyboard layout or input method you'd like to be your new default, and then tap or click Save.
Note
If you don't see the keyboard layout or input method you want, then you haven't added it to your input method list. For instructions, see the Add a keyboard layout or input method for a language section.
Keep me posted. Happy to help!

Hi Praveenbv,
thanks for your reply, but I don't want to change the keyboard layout or system language. Both are set to German which is correct.
However, I followed your instructions and added English as second language. Unfortunately it doesn't change my problem: when I press "a" on my keybord "as" comes up on the screen, when I press "s" on my keybord "as" comes up on the screen, too. I can't write any text with my notebook keyboard.
The following keys don't work correctly.
Key Output on screen
1 12
2 12
shift + 1 !" (sometimes also "!)
shift + 2 !" (sometimes also "!)
q qw
w qw
shift + q QW (sometimes also WQ)
shift + w QW (sometimes also WQ)
a as
s as
shift + a AS (somestimes also SA)
shift + s AS (somestimes also SA)
y yx
x yx
shift + x YX (somestimes also XY)
shift + y YX (somestimes also XY)
In the meantime I was able to open the notebook back cover. Unfortunately the keyboard can't be changed on this type of notebook, because it's a kind of fixed part of the aluminum top cover.
I hope you have a smart idea for my problem. Thank you in advance.

Hi@MAK19, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
We reviewed your post and I understand that the Touch Screen and keyboard don't work after the Window 10 update
Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.
I recommend you follow the below steps and check if it helps.
- Turn off your HP laptop.
- Disconnect all external devices (printers, USB drives, etc.) from your computer.
- Remove all recently added internal hardware.
- Press the Power button to switch your HP laptop on.
- Once your unit starts booting, immediately press the F11 key. Repeatedly press it until you see the Choose an Option screen.
- Select Troubleshoot.
- Choose Reset this PC.
- You can either opt to keep your files or to remove everything.
- Select Keep My Files when you want to retain your data. Once you click Reset, your operating system will be reinstalled. The process may take a while.
- Choose Remove Everything when you want to remove all your personal files.
- You can opt to remove everything solely on the drive where your operating system is installed. On the other hand, you can click All Drives when you do not want to retain any data.
- You can also fully clean the drive you selected or just remove your files.
- Click Reset.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Hi Praveenbv,
my laptop has no touch screen. Maybe I selected the wrong hardware at the beginning. Here are the details from data plate: HP 250 G5, product #: Z2Y31ES#ABD, serial #: CND6457HFJ (serial # can't be found on HP.com).
I think it's not a problem of Windows 10. I ran the laptop with Windows 10 since almost 3 years without any problems. The keyboard causes problems since approx. 1 week. I already reinstalled Windows 10 two times (kept my files), but the keyboard issue is still there. I also think it's not a software issue, because an external keyboard works well.
