@JaxHeart, Hello and welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your question. I'm here to help you get things back on track.
I understand you're experiencing an issue where pressing certain keys on your HP OMNIBOOK X keyboard results in unexpected characters (e.g., pressing @ gives ", and # gives £). This is typically caused by the keyboard layout being set to a different region than expected.
Here's how to fix it:
Step 1: Check and Change Keyboard Layout (Windows 11/10)
- Click on Start and go to Settings ⚙️.
- Navigate to Time & Language > Language & Region.
- Under Preferred Languages, click on your language (e.g., English).
- Click Options.
- Under Keyboards, ensure the layout is set to US QWERTY (or your preferred layout).
- If you see United Kingdom or another layout, click on it and select Remove.
- To add the correct one, click Add a keyboard and choose US.
Step 2: Switch Keyboard Input Method (if multiple layouts are installed)
- Press Windows + Spacebar to toggle between installed keyboard layouts.
- Select the one that matches your physical keyboard (usually US for HP laptops sold in most regions).
Step 3: Restart Your PC
- After making the changes, restart your laptop to ensure the new settings take effect.
