Hi @NK944,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like the soda has left a sticky residue underneath the affected keys, which is a common issue after spills. Here's how you can address the problem.

Turn Off and Disconnect Power:

  • Power down the Chromebook immediately to avoid any potential short circuits.
  • Disconnect the charger and any peripherals.

Clean the Keys:

  • Use a soft, lint-free cloth slightly dampened with isopropyl alcohol (70% or higher) to wipe the sticky keys.
  • Be gentle to avoid pushing the residue further into the keyboard.

Test Key Functionality:

  • After cleaning, check if the keys press more smoothly.

If the issue continues, you may need to perform a more thorough cleaning:

Remove Affected Keycaps:

  • Use a plastic tool or flat object to gently pry off the sticky keycaps. Be cautious to avoid damaging the key mechanism.
  • Take note of where each keycap belongs.

Clean Underneath the Keys:

  • Use a cotton swab dampened with isopropyl alcohol to clean the area beneath the keycaps.
  • Remove any visible residue or debris.

Dry and Reattach Keycaps:

  • Allow the cleaned areas to dry completely.
  • Reattach the keycaps by pressing them gently into place until they click.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
