@Biswajyoti0707, Hello and welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your question. I'm here to help you get things back on track.

I understand you're experiencing erratic behavior with your HP notebook keyboard, including a stuck Shift key, random capitalization, and non-functional number keys. Let's walk through some steps to diagnose and resolve this issue.

Perform a Hard Reset

Sometimes, residual electrical charge can cause keyboard malfunctions.

  1. Shut down the notebook.
  2. Disconnect the power adapter and all peripherals.
  3. Press and hold the Power button for 15 seconds.
  4. Reconnect the power and turn the notebook back on.

Check for Physical or Liquid Damage

  • Inspect the keyboard for any stuck keys, dust, or debris.
  • If there's a chance of liquid spill, it may cause ghost key presses. In such cases, servicing may be required.

Use HP Hardware Diagnostics

HP provides a built-in tool to test keyboard functionality.

  1. Turn off the notebook.
  2. Turn it back on and immediately press Esc repeatedly, then press F2 to open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
  3. Select Component Tests > Keyboard Test.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to test each key.

Update or Reinstall Keyboard Drivers

  1. Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
  2. Expand Keyboards, right-click your keyboard device, and choose Uninstall device.
  3. Restart your notebook — Windows will reinstall the driver automatically.

Also, check for updates:

  • Go to Settings > Windows Update > Check for updates.

Test in Safe Mode

Booting into Safe Mode can help determine if third-party software is interfering.

  1. Press Windows + R, type msconfig, and hit Enter.
  2. Under the Boot tab, check Safe boot and select Minimal.
  3. Restart and test the keyboard.

If the issue disappears in Safe Mode, a background app or driver may be causing the problem.

External Keyboard Test

Connect a USB or Bluetooth keyboard. If it works fine, the issue is likely hardware-related on the notebook's built-in keyboard.

I hope the information shared has been useful and resolves your concern.

Wishing you a smooth and hassle-free experience ahead!
