HP Pavilion Laptop 14-bf0xx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Severe keyboard lag is experienced. However, it is intermittent. It happens when I'm in a browser, as well as in Word or Excel. I find that I'm typing, but nothing appears initially - then, after a couple of seconds, the text appears. There are periods where there is no lag, but never for more than a couple of minutes.

I've ensured filter keys are off, and also run the component hardware tests via the BIOS, which all passed. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the keyboard driver via Device Manager. All updates are up to date, both from a Windows as well as HP perspective.

It's been like this for more than a year, but, as I seldom use this laptop, I've not reported it.

I did find  that, after doing a laptop reset, the keyboard issue was resolved. However, within the same day, as the various windows updates applied, the issue would come back.

Is anyone else experiencing the same symptom that can provide me with some help?

@haggy Welcome to HP Community!

I understand that the Keyboard is lagging.

Please perform the system file check.

1) Select Start, and in the search box, enter Command Prompt. Press and hold (or right-click) Command Prompt (Desktop app) from the search results and select Run as administrator.

2) Enter DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth (note the spaces before each "/").

3) Enter sfc /scannow (note the space between "sfc" and "/").

Try updating the computer, this will install the latest updates -

Step 1 Windows Updates -

1) In the search box, type, and open Windows Updates.

2) Check for updates.

3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.

Step 2 Install updates using HP Support Assistant

  1. In the search box, type, and open HP Support Assistant.
  2. Check for updates.
  3. If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.

Note: If you do not have HP Support Assistant installed, Click here to download the same.

Hello - thanks for getting back to me.

I've run DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth - feedback was that "The restore operation completed successfully"

I've run  sfc /scannow - feedback was that "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations"

Prior to me posting, I ensured that all Windows and HP updates were up to date - i have, though, checked again, and all are up to date.

The behaviour is still the same. Using the laptop keyboard, I still have significant keyboard lag, where the letters follow seconds after I've typed them.

@haggy

I understand your concerns.

In that case, I would suggets you perform the system reset.

Windows 10 has a reset feature that repairs your computer by reinstalling the operating system. This feature is recommended for recovery because it reinstalls Windows 10 while either preserving your personal data and customizations or removing all your personal data.

You have a choice of two methods to reset your computer.

  • If Windows 10 loads correctly, see the section titled Perform a Windows 10 system reset in Windows in this document.

  • If Windows 10 does not start correctly, see the section titled Perform a Windows 10 system reset through Windows Recovery Environment in this document.

Have a nice day!!

Hi

I've tried as suggested and done another windows reset. I took the option where it deleted all apps, etc. Once the installation was complete, after the first boot, typing was fine. However, after the Windows updates were applied, the keyboard lag re-appeared Thus, this has not resolved the problem.

I have same issue, did you find a solution?

Hi - nope, and gave up trying to get help via there support line.

It's very clear that, once you do a full fresh install of Windows, it's OK, but within a couple of hours, as the Windows updates apply, the keyboard lag. I've tried all the remedy's suggested, but nothing has worked.

Do post here if you find a solution, please.
