I just purchased a new Pavilion X360 model DW1024nr and noticed that the keyboard letters (most of them) are very dull and very hard to read without a light shining on the keyboard. Is this normal or do I have a defective keyboard?
10-09-2021 01:31 PM
It might be normal for this type of keyboard.
The keyboard on this model:
Keyboard | Full-size, ash gray keyboard |
Keyboard Color | ash gray |
Keyboard size | Full-size |
Gray keyboard on gray machine is harder to see than, for example, a black faced keyboard.

That's true. I don't know what is in mind of those designers. I always work with external keyboards (99%) until I read some comments from users. I've got 2 machines with silver keyboards, I can' read them without their backlit.
Regards.

I know, right?
I had one of these "ghost" (all silver) machines a few years back - and yes, I did use an external keyboard with it most of the time.
Silly computer looked sleek and gorgeous sitting there on the desk - and I could not see the keys.
"Touch typists", that is, those who can type without looking at the keyboard, won't mind the silver keys as much.
The rest of the people on the planet like a keyboard that shows the keys...

Yes, I understand that the keybord is gray on gray but the letters on the keys are not all white, several are very dull or dirty white which makes them hard to see. Seems like all keys should be labeled in white. Is there a way to upload a picture to this tread?

HP Support - Technical Support for Devices in Warranty
Reminders
- Case submission to HP Support is available to those whose devices registered and are still in Warranty.
- Not every issue is covered under the standard Hardware Warranty. Purchased Care Pack Warranties differ by contract.
- HP is not a "general" repair facility: Requests for out-of-warranty repairs are generally not accepted.
- If the problem is hardware, if your device is in Warranty, if your device is Registered, and you cannot submit your case to Support, let us know and we will forward a request.
- HP Phone numbers you find on the Internet have likely been hijacked.
Out of Warranty? What to do...
For those of us who are "Out of Warranty" people, submitting a case to HP is not an option.
HP Support does not generally provide free service for out-of-warranty devices.
Our Community is not HP Support; we do offer help free of charge.

Reminder
- When you submit your question to the Community,
- Provide as much information as possible about the product, the Operating System
- Tell us what you have tried to fix the problem.
