I am using a HP Pavilion Plus 14 laptop. Its been about 2 years now..
From the past few days, my keyboard light is not working when the device is ON...
When i power ON my device, the keyboard light turns on for 4-5 seconds and when the screen appears it just turns off...!
The Keyboard light button on 'F4' also doesn't seem to respond.. I went to the BIOS setting and tried to change the delay time.. there's still no change...
Want help in fixing this issue

@Deep4002, Hello and welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your question. I'm here to help you get things back on track.
I'm here to help you with the keyboard backlight issue you're experiencing on your HP Pavilion Plus 14 inch Laptop PC 14-ew0000 (7X844AV).
You've mentioned that the keyboard backlight turns on briefly during startup but switches off once Windows loads, and pressing F4 (keyboard backlight key) has no effect. You've also checked BIOS settings, but the issue persists.
This issue is commonly linked to driver conflicts, BIOS behavior, or system settings. Let's walk through the troubleshooting steps.
Confirm Backlit Keyboard Support
Ensure your specific model supports a backlit keyboard. You can check this on the HP Product Specifications page
Perform a Hard Reset
Sometimes, a power reset can fix hardware glitches:
- Shut down the laptop.
- Disconnect the power adapter.
- Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
- Reconnect the power and turn the laptop back on.
Update BIOS and Drivers
Outdated firmware or drivers can cause keyboard issues:
- Visit the HP Software and Driver Downloads page.
- Enter your product number.
- Download and install the latest:
- BIOS update
- Keyboard drivers
- HP System Event Utility (controls special function keys like F4)
Use HP PC Hardware Diagnostics
To check for hardware faults:
- Press Esc repeatedly during startup, then press F2 to open HP Diagnostics.
- Select Component Tests > Keyboard.
- Follow the on-screen instructions.
If the test fails, the keyboard backlight hardware may need servicing.
Check Windows Mobility Center
Sometimes, the backlight setting is controlled via Windows:
- Press Windows + X and select Mobility Center.
- Look for a Keyboard Backlight setting and adjust it.
Check HP Quick Launch Buttons (if installed)
Some HP laptops require this utility for function keys:
- Download from the HP support page if not already installed.
Create a New User Profile
Corrupt user profiles can affect keyboard settings:
- Create a new user account and check if the backlight works there.
I hope the information shared has been useful and resolves your concern.
Wishing you a smooth and hassle-free experience ahead!
