Initially, I was receiving the 90b error regarding the cooling fan. I replaced the fan which had a damaged wire. I’ve never had issues with the keyboard before, but now only a handful of keys work when I turn my computer back on.

I thought that I reattached everything properly when putting my laptop back together, but is there anything that I should try adjusting to fix this issue in the hardware? Or could this be a software issue? Nothing seems to be visibly damaged around the keyboard connections, and I did not use any type of liquid around it when it was open.

How can I get all of my keys to function properly again?

I recommend you perform a test on the keyboard to make sure that it is not a hardware issue.

 

Follow the steps in the below article to perform a test on the keyboard.

I wanted to reach out to you and help! 

 

In order that I may provide you with an accurate solution, I will need a few more details.

  • When was the last time the computer was working fine?
  • What is the operating system you are using?
  • Have you checked with an external keyboard?
  • Have you performed any troubleshooting steps before posting?

 

While you respond to that, I recommend you uninstall the keyboard driver from device manager and then restart the computer and check.

 

If you continue to face the issue, I recommend you update the BIOS and chipset driver from the below link and test.

The last time that the computer was working was about a week and a half ago before I replaced the fan. 

I am using Windows 10 and perform the system updates whenever I am notified of them. 

I am currently using an external keyboard, and it seems to be working perfectly!

The only troubleshooting that I've tried is uninstalling the keyboards from the device manager, but unfortunately it did not make my keyboard work after restarting. 

 

Next, I will try updating the BIOS and chipset driver with the link you provided, but will I need to backup my computer's pictures and documents before doing that or is there no risk of losing my documents with that update?

Update: 

 

So, I also have updated the BIOS and chipset drivers and that has not made a difference in my keyboard functionality.

Could this be some other kind of software problem, or is it more likely a hardware issue that I will need to open up my laptop to fix?

It is still just random keys working on my keyboard including a couple of numbers, the caps lock, brightness down, volume up, and a few letters. Every other aspect of my computer seems to be functioning properly.

Thanks for your help! It is working now after opening my laptop, disconnecting the keyboard cable then re-attaching it.
