My keyboard isn't working. I last used my laptop on Thursday (two days ago) and it was working fine. The volume bottom on the side works (although it is backwards) and the on button works. When I turn on laptop and press esc it sends me to start up page and I did a component check test via the F2 key and it my laptop and mouse both worked fine and it passed the test. However as soon as it then went on to turning on I couldn't use either. Please help I have been trying to fix this issue for hours.

@gabbynewton99,

Good day. Thank you for taking an interest in the HP community. I reviewed the post and will be glad to assist you here.

  • Did this occur after a recent software or windows update?

Let's try these steps:

  • First, use an external wired USB keyboard and mouse and connect it to the notebook.
  • Then from this link: https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c04856156 (HP Notebook PCs - Switching Between Tablet Mode and Desktop Mode (Windows 10)
  • Then enable and disable tablet mode.

Later try these steps to uninstall and reinstall the keyboard drivers:

  • Right-Click on start button> click device manager> expand Keyboards>then select the keyboard drivers that are listed and right-click on it and uninstall the drivers.
  • Then restart the computer and update the bios and chipset from this link: http://hp.com/drivers and follow the on-screen instructions.
  • Then check if the issue gets resolved.

If it continues, then perform relevant steps from this link: https://support.hp.com/ca-en/document/c03738933 (HP Notebook PCs - Notebook Keyboard Troubleshooting (Windows 10, 8)

This should work for you.

Good luck and keep me posted about the developments. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue and give the post a Kudos for my efforts to help. Thank you and have a great week ahead. 🙂
