Keyboard not working. Afraid to try hard reset because power button not working, so if I turn it off, it might not turn back on.

Hello SoItGoes83,

Thank you for posting your concern,

For your HP 15.6 inch Laptop PC with Chrome OS, here are a few steps you can try to resolve the keyboard issue without turning the computer off:

  1. External Keyboard: Connect an external USB or wireless keyboard to see if that works. This can help you continue using the device and bypass the built-in keyboard issue temporarily.

  2. Software Reset: Perform a soft reset of Chrome OS. Press the Refresh key (circular arrow) and the Power key simultaneously if it's working to restart the Chromebook safely without turning it off completely.

  3. Check for System Updates: Ensure that your Chrome OS is updated to the latest version as updates can fix existing bugs including hardware related issues.

  4. Settings Check: Navigate to the settings (using an external keyboard if needed) and ensure the keyboard settings are properly configured.

  5. Keyboard Clean: Sometimes dust or debris can cause keyboard issues, make sure the keyboard is clean. However, be gentle and use a soft brush to clean between the keys.

  6. Contact HP Support: If these steps do not resolve the issue, it may be best to contact HP customer support for further assistance, as there might be hardware-related problems.

If the power button is not working, I would advise against performing any actions that might power the device off until you have a viable solution for powering it back on.
