HP Pavilion AiO PC 27-ca2000i (6L7D8AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

I’ve read that the keyboard that came with my all in one no longer has a number lock. But as I try to enter passwords, a small notification shows on the screen ‘Number lock off’ with an open padlock and the number 1 on it. That continues to toggle off and on to the point where I have to use the number keys along the top of the keyboard. Does anyone have any ideas on what might be going on?

Hi @bwjacobs99,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

I understand how frustrating it can be to have your number lock behaving unexpectedly, especially when you're trying to enter passwords. Let's look into this together and find a solution.

  • Have you noticed this issue with the number lock occurring only with certain applications or across all usage, including basic typing?
  • Does the number lock status change unexpectedly on its own, or only when specific keys are pressed?
  • Are you using any external keyboard settings or utilities that might control the number lock, such as accessibility options or third-party software?

  • Check Keyboard Accessibility Settings:
Go to Settings > Accessibility (or Ease of Access in older versions of Windows) and look for any settings that could be managing the keyboard input, like Sticky Keys or Toggle Keys. Turn these off if they are enabled.
  •
  • Reboot the PC and Check for Updates:
Restart your PC to refresh system functions, and check Windows Update for any firmware or keyboard driver updates that could resolve compatibility issues with the number lock function.
  •
  • Use On-Screen Keyboard to Test Number Lock:
Go to Settings > Ease of Access > Keyboard and turn on the On-Screen Keyboard. Use this keyboard to toggle the number lock and check if it displays a similar message. This can help determine if the issue is with the physical keyboard or a software setting.
  •
  • Uninstall and Reinstall Keyboard Drivers:
Open Device Manager by right-clicking on the Start menu, then expand Keyboards. Right-click on your keyboard driver and select Uninstall device. Restart your PC to allow Windows to automatically reinstall the correct drivers.
  •
  • Reset the BIOS Settings:
  • Occasionally, keyboard issues can stem from BIOS settings. Restart your PC, press F10 or another BIOS key at startup to enter the BIOS setup. Look for keyboard or input device settings and reset them to default. Save and exit, then test the keyboard again.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
