If your laptop keyboard only works when you hold the key down, there are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the problem. Follow these steps:

Check Sticky Keys:

  • Sticky Keys can cause a keyboard to behave strangely. To check if Sticky Keys are enabled on your system:
    • Press the Windows key + U to open the Ease of Access Center.
    • Select "Keyboard" from the left pane.
    • Ensure "Sticky Keys" is turned off.

Adjust Keyboard Settings:

  • You can also check if there are any accessibility settings that might be causing this issue:
    • Press the Windows key and type "Ease of Access keyboard settings" and press Enter.
    • Make sure that "Filter Keys" is turned off.

Update Keyboard Drivers:

  • Sometimes keyboard driver issues can cause keys to behave oddly. Ensure your keyboard drivers are up to date:
    • Press the Windows key + X and select "Device Manager."
    • Find "Keyboards" and expand the list.
    • Right-click your keyboard device and select "Update driver."
    • Follow the prompts to update the driver.

Check for BIOS Settings:

  • Some BIOS settings might affect keyboard behavior:
    • Restart the computer and press F10 (or the appropriate key for your laptop) to enter the BIOS setup.
    • Navigate through the BIOS menu to see if there are any settings related to keyboard behavior.
    • Save and exit the BIOS setup.

Perform a Clean Boot:

  • A clean boot can help identify if a third-party application is causing the issue:
    • Press the Windows key + R and type "msconfig" and press Enter.
    • Navigate to the "Services" tab and check "Hide all Microsoft services."
    • Click "Disable all."
    • Go to the "Startup" tab and click "Open Task Manager."
    • Disable all startup items.
    • Restart your computer.
