Linux

I changed the OS for this computer to Ubuntu Linux (ver. 18.04.4)

Everything works great except the backlight for the keyboard.  It is permanently off.

Pressing F5 or Fn + F5 defaults to some other F5 function.

Any thoughts about how to fix this?

I changed OS because I went through a series of Windows Updates that broke my computer, and I got very tired of constantly going back and fixing them.  This may have been fixed by now and I might consider returning to Windows 10, but after getting Linux to work the way I like, I'd rather not.  If it's just the keyboard, it's  not such a big deal but I thought someone might have followed this same process and found a solution.

I'm sorry, but HP only warranties their PCs for usage with the OS that comes preinstalled.

IF you replace that with a Linux distro, or add a Linux distro, then you assume full responsibility for maintaining that -- including solving any problems with booting the other OS and/or installing the other OS.

Your best bet for support with issues with Linux is to contact the support forum of the distro you are using.

Since you are using Ubuntu, go here: https://ubuntuforums.org/

Good Luck
