Hi @36181,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your new HP laptop keyboard is not working. Let’s go through a few steps to troubleshoot this issue.

Restart the laptop
Sometimes a simple restart resolves temporary hardware or software glitches.
Shut down the laptop completely, wait a few seconds, then power it back on.

Check for physical damage or debris
Ensure nothing is stuck under the keys and the keyboard is clean.
Gently turn the laptop upside down and shake lightly to remove dust.

Test an external keyboard
Connect a USB or Bluetooth keyboard to check if input works.
If an external keyboard works, the issue is likely with the built-in keyboard.

Check keyboard settings in Windows
Go to Settings → Ease of Access → Keyboard and make sure Filter Keys is turned off.
Filter Keys can prevent the keyboard from responding properly.

Update or reinstall keyboard driver
Press Windows + X → Device Manager → Keyboards.
Right-click your keyboard and select Update driver.
If updating doesn’t work, select Uninstall device, then restart the laptop to reinstall automatically.

Perform a BIOS/UEFI check
Restart the laptop and press Esc repeatedly, then F10 to enter BIOS.
If the keyboard works in BIOS, the issue is likely software-related in Windows. If not, it may be hardware-related.

Power reset the laptop
Shut down the laptop, unplug it, and remove the battery if removable.
Hold the power button for 15–20 seconds, then reconnect and power on.

I hope this helps.
