Hello,

My pet was sitting on the right side of my keyboard pressing down the backspace key and the backslash key from what I saw and now I cannot use my keyboard without getting multiple characters when I press a single key.  For example, If I hit the key H or G, I get hy6 and gt5 respectively. If I press the backspace button, my keyboard will make a beeping noise and only a backslash appears and if I press that again, it stays with the single backslash and keeps making the beeping noise. If I press backspace and backslash together, and then press the H key, the hy6 turns to nye6h....I thought that pressing these two keys would disable whatever is happening....

I ran a component test on the keyboard (through the startup menu), and saw that when I press bavkspace and backslash either together or separately, the num lock key is highlighted.  If I press  the accent grave symbol, the caps lock, tab key and esc key are all highlighted as if i pressed them. The g and h key also highlight the other characters imentioned as if they were also being pressed.  I tried changing the keyboard and language settings but nothing has worked! I am currently typing with the on screen keyboard and it's quite the nuisance and very slow.  Not sure how to return the keyboard to its original state. Please help! ;(

If the Keyboard is malfunctioning during the Keyboard Test, then it would be a Hardware issue . I suggest you contact HP Support for Service Options
