Hi @Stephanie_4-4

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Commendable diagnosis, superb troubleshooting and splendid description of the issue before posting. Hats off to you on that score. 😊

Here are some additional steps you can try to resolve the problem.

  • BIOS Update: Ensure that your laptop's BIOS is up to date. Visit HP's official website, enter your laptop model, and check if there's a BIOS update available.

  • Power Settings: Adjust your power settings to make sure that the USB ports, where the keyboard and touchpad are connected, are not being turned off to save power. Go to "Power Options" in the Control Panel and customize the power plan settings.

  • Device Manager: Open the Device Manager and uninstall the drivers for the touchpad and keyboard. Restart your laptop, and Windows should automatically reinstall the drivers. To access the Device Manager, press Win + X and select "Device Manager."

  • System File Checker (SFC): Open Command Prompt as an administrator and run the System File Checker to scan and repair corrupted system files. Type sfc /scannow and press Enter. Allow the process to complete and then restart your computer.

  • Check for Malware: Run a full system scan using your antivirus software to ensure that your system is not infected with malware.

  • Windows Update: Check for any pending Windows updates and install them. Sometimes, a system update may address hardware compatibility issues.

  • HP Support Assistant: Use the HP Support Assistant application to check for and install the latest drivers and updates for your laptop.

  • Reinstall Windows: If all else fails, consider reinstalling Windows on your laptop. This should be done as a last resort, and you should back up your important data before proceeding.

I hope this helps.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
