The keyboard has been typing by itself, but only with a single key - which is " / " non-stop.
I've researched and done a few tips i found online:
1)Troubleshoot the hardware but gives me "Hardware changes might not have been detected"
2)Scan for any viruses or trojans (turned back to be 0)
3)Uninstall keyboard drivers and restart
4)Boot into safe mode (solved it once but kept typing again after the 2nd boot)
5)Reset the laptop to factory (The first time it solved the problem but then it came back, reset again and still there)
6)Tried plugging in an external keyboard but still types " / "
None of the above gave me a permanent solution.
The 2 other solutions i haven't tried yet was cleaning my keyboard (hard to do so without removing it) and replacing the keyboard itself.
Has anyone experienced this before? What did you do to resolve the issue?
P.s. - I'm not very techie..

Thanks for stopping by the HP Support Forums. After reading your post I see that you need assistance regarding issues with the computer’s keyboard. It will be a delight to assist you here.
Superb analysis and brilliant diagnosis of the issue before posting. Kudos to you on that score. 🙂
For better clarity and to assist you better I would require more information regarding this:
- Did this happen after a power outage or surge?
- Was the notebook accidentally dropped or any liquid spilled on it?
Let me keep you posted that the evidence points to a computer hardware issue and this is only an attempt to try and resolve the issue. If it does not work then the computer needs to be repaired by contacting HP phone support.
For now, try these steps:
- Please perform a hard reset on the notebook by following instructions from this link: https://hp.care/2nwQ054
Then check if the issue gets resolved.
If it continues, then contact HP phone support to get the computer serviced or the keyboard replaced. I am being honest about it by keeping your best interest in mind as it is a hardware issue with the keyboard.
HP Technical Support can be reached by clicking on the following link: https://hp.care/2r9wSvP
- Once the support page opens please select the country in which you're located. Next, enter your HP model number on the right.
- Next, choose the 'Contact Support' tab at the top and scroll down to the bottom of the 'HP Support- Contact' page to fill out the form provided with your contact information.
- Once completed click the 'Show Options' icon on the bottom right.
- Lastly, scroll down to the bottom of the page and select 'Get phone number.' A case number and phone number will now populate for you.
They will be happy to assist you immediately.
If the unit is under warranty, the manufacturer’s warranty should take care of it for you.
- You could order the keyboard from HP phone support also or by visiting this link: https://hp.care/2tp77rQ
- Then follow the on-screen instructions. You might get a phone number to call depending on your country of residence.
Then check this service manual: https://hp.care/2urM4pW and refer to pages 45, 46and 47 for instructions on how to remove and replace the keyboard with the list of Keyboard part numbers compatible for your computer based on your country of residence.
All you need to do is contact HP support or HP Parts and order the keyboard by giving them the part numbers.
Then you could contact a local technician to get the keyboard replaced. This should resolve the issue.
Perform all these steps patiently as it is critical to resolving the issue. Good luck to you. I will keep a watch for your response.
Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!
To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles.
Take care and have a blessed week ahead. 🙂

I have tried several other attempts to solve the issue - going so far as to check the registry of my laptop for any viruses via Autoruns and failed to see anything unusual; I've finally went to the repair center and had them check the laptop, they concluded it is a hardware issue with the keyboard needing a replacement.
I'm currently on the process of getting the keyboard replaced. Hopefully the issue will be resolved when the laptop gets back to me. I'll update the thread if the issue is solved.
Have a good day.
