Hi @Nadex,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
If the backlight on your HP laptop's keyboard is not turning on, here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:
- Check Keyboard Backlight Toggle:
- Most HP laptops have a function key that toggles the keyboard backlight, typically found as a function key (such as F5 or F4). Press the function key along with the Fn key (if needed) to see if the backlight turns on.

- Check BIOS Settings:
- Restart your laptop and enter the BIOS/UEFI settings (usually by pressing F10, F2, ESC, or DEL during startup).
- Look for keyboard lighting settings and ensure they are enabled.
- Perform a Hard Reset:
- Turn off your laptop, disconnect the power adapter, and remove the battery (if removable).
- Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds to discharge capacitors.
- Reattach the battery, plug in the adapter, and power the laptop back on.
- HP Support Assistant:
- Use the HP Support Assistant tool to check for any software updates or troubleshooting support specific to your model.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have an amazing day!
